Lulworth Cove

Lulworth Cove is an Alpine fold structure in Lower Cretaceous rocks outcropping on the Dorset Coast in Southern England. A natural horse-shoe shaped harbour created 10,000 years ago.
Lulworth Cove was formed approximately 10,000 years ago by the awesome powers of a river and the sea. It continues to evolve behind a narrow Portland stone entrance as the softer Purbeck, Wealdon, Greensand and Chalk exposures are eroded.
The cove itself whilst being very striking to look at, also shows several geological and palaeontological features important to our understanding of the geological evolution of the area.
